At Asp we believe great fishing shouldn't cost a great fortune
Our Goal
At ASP, our mission is to make fishing more accessible by offering high quality tackle and gear at the most affordable prices possible. Angling is more than a hobby to us. It’s a passion we are proud to share and promote across current and future generations. Whether you're just starting out or already hooked, we’re here to support your journey on the water.
Fishing in the UK
To legally fish in the UK it is required that you have a valid rod fishing licence if you're aged 13 or over and are fishing in freshwater (rivers, lakes, canals). You can buy your licence here to get one online from the Environment Agency. If you're fishing on a club managed stretch or private lake, you'll also need a permit from the fishery or angling club that owns the body of water. Licences are free for ages 13–16, and fishing without one can result in a fine. Once licensed, you’re good to go. Just follow local rules, respect the environment, and enjoy your time on the bank.
Know your fish
Before you cast out, it helps to know what you might catch. UK rivers and lakes are home to a range of species, the most commonly caught are: Perch, Pike, Roach, Chub, Carp, Barbel, Bleak, Dace, Rudd, Bream, Gudgeon, Minnows and Tench. Wels catfish are also present, mainly in lakes across the country however they do make rare appearances in a few rivers, the River Trent, the River Severn, the River Great Ouse and the mighty River Thames.
Learning to identify the different species makes fishing more enjoyable and helps you decide the right gear and tactics for exploring the UK freshwater fish species
